About Young Future Shapers
The Young Future Shapers project is a program designed to empower teens and young adults to capture any opportunities in the ever-changing digital era.
The program aims to expose individuals to entrepreneurial thinking and foster their natural enterprising spirit in a hands-on environment.
It is not an academic program but an actual assisted-acceleration program to launch a startup / project initiative based off their own ideas.
Young entrepreneurs do not need to have an idea for a product before starting the program, however through out the first stage of the program (Discovery) we will need to finalize an idea before they can continue into the next phase of the program.
Our innovation experts will go through various workshops in which they have done for their corporate and business clients in the past in which to brainstorm and identify potential opportunities and ideas.
The goal is for them to innovate and build off an idea they already have coming into the program or come into the program with the problem solving mindset and our team will work with them to come up with an idea of their own.
Young entrepreneurs begin with the Discovery stage where they work with the team to finalize an idea. Discovery stage can be taken as long as the participant feels is productive, but on average we estimate 4 weeks is enough for most ideas, however there can be cases where their idea far surpasses common ideas and requires more due diligence. Once the discovery is completed, they can move on to the next stages of the program.
Participants who choose to continue developing their idea will move onto Prototyping where the team of designers and mentors will begin to create a prototype of the Young Future Shaper’s Minimum Viable Product. It’s through prototyping that they will validate and evaluate their ideas. The YFS participant is expected to manage the project with the assistance of the assigned mentor.
For those who feel confident about their prototype and the validation feedback, can choose to go on to finalize a business strategy plan and possibly even create a v1.0 of their idea which would prepare them for Launch, the final stage of the YFS program.
The program will begin in the summer of 2017 and continue throughout the year. Participants can attend their sessions after school once classes begins.
No, there are no requirements for young adults to enroll in this program. Young adults are naturally entrepreneurial. Some important traits entrepreneurs possess, which many parents are familiar with include:
- Passion/excitement for ideas and activities
- Challenging rules that don’t have logic
Sometimes what may seem troublesome, i.e., challenging rules, can be a form of creativity and entrepreneurial intellect.
No experience is required to support kids through our programs. The concepts are easy to grasp and applicable to our day-to-day lives. We provide resources for parents to stay in the loop throughout the program, including email updates and summaries of key concepts, and ways to help draw connections to support their learning throughout the week.
We ask all interested participants and parents to apply. We will meet the shortlisted candidates to go over the program in more detail.
If you would like to learn more about the program before applying, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected], and one of our program directors will arrange a meeting or phone call to discuss the program in more detail.
Our mentors and supporting team come from various backgrounds; from innovators, technologists, designers and entrepreneurs. Most importantly, they are all encouraging and will push the Young Future Shapers to new heights of creativity and problem solving. They’re inspiring and passionate about making a difference in the lives of the young adults they work with.
